Response from Umbro.com re Kangaroo culling

Dear Sir,
Using kangaroos in the production of your goods is disgraceful.
My family and I will never buy any of your items ever again.

Dear Mrs Robinson,
Thank you for contacting Umbro.com customer services.
It is our understanding that the Australian government authorises the annual
cull of around six million kangaroos, as a method of controlling their numbers.
One by product of this unfortunate, but necessary process, is that the hides
are sold and processed into leather for a variety of products, including football
boots. Many manufacturers use kangaroo leather in their top boots because
of its naturally supple and strong characteristics. In terms of the method by
which kangaroos are culled, it is our understanding that the nature of the
animals means that shooting is often the only available method, but that it is
done in the most humane way possible.
We would not knowingly condone the slaughter you describe, we only want to
provide a comfortable boot for players to wear. Understandably, if the kangaroos
are being treated as badly as I have heard from previous emails then you have
every right to be upset and disgusted as I am at the thought and I will be doing
my own personal research to find out.
Leona
